One GIF, up to 20 MiB, 300 frames, 30 seconds, 1920 px per side, 2 million pixels per frame and 100 million decoded pixels in total. A zero frame delay becomes 100 ms; nonzero delays retain their 10 ms units. PNG and ZIP output is limited to 100 MiB. Preview shows 20 frames per page. Processing stops after 5 minutes. GIF plain-text blocks, animated WebP and APNG are unsupported.

How to use

What is a GIF frame extractor?

Extract complete composed GIF frames as PNG images for a storyboard, an animation review or a still-image edit. Preview each frame and download individual PNGs or a selected-frame ZIP with timing.json.

Step by step

  1. Choose a GIF, extract its frames, review the previews and select the PNGs to download.
  2. All frames are initially selected. Uncheck frames you do not need, or download a single PNG. The selected ZIP keeps original frame numbers and order; it does not create a new GIF.
  3. Nonzero GIF delays retain their 10 ms units. Zero delays use 100 ms consistently in the preview report and video; this may differ from a GIF viewer’s playback policy.

PNG / ZIPPNG frames preserve transparency and the source canvas size. Disposal modes 0–3 and interlaced images are composed; partial frame rectangles become complete canvas images.

Example and expected result

The supplied 64 × 40 GIF has 10 frames at 100 ms each. Selecting all produces 10 PNG files and timing.json: 11 ZIP entries. Selecting frames 2 and 5 produces those two PNGs plus a manifest retaining their original frame numbers and delays.

If it is not working

  • One GIF, up to 20 MiB, 300 frames, 30 seconds, 1920 px per side, 2 million pixels per frame and 100 million decoded pixels in total.
  • If extraction fails, reopen the GIF in an image editor and export a smaller or shorter copy. Incomplete image data is rejected. If a ZIP is too large, select fewer frames or download individual PNGs.
