How do shaped crops work?
Choose PNG to keep transparent corners in circle and rounded crops. JPEG fills transparency with white. The file itself is rectangular. Rounded corners use a radius of 12% of the shorter edge.
Will the image lose quality?
Output dimensions can be smaller than the selected original area, but never larger. Zooming selects fewer original pixels. Resizing and JPEG encoding can lose detail, so inspect the result. PNG avoids an extra lossy compression step. The original stays unchanged; exported metadata is removed and browser color rendering may differ.
What if my file-size limit is not reached?
We check the actual encoded bytes and dimensions. JPEG tries up to ten quality settings without changing your chosen dimensions. If none fit, the smallest tested result is marked as not meeting the limit. Adjust your requirements yourself; no file-size promise guarantees visual quality.

Example and expected result
For a 400 × 400 avatar, select a square crop and a 400 × 400 output when the selected source area is large enough. PNG keeps the corners transparent; JPEG fills them white. The destination app may apply its own crop.
