How should I choose the settings?
Start with the original dimensions. For a form upload limit, choose JPEG and enter the maximum KB. We try up to ten quality settings and check actual bytes. If none meet your limit, the smallest tested result is marked clearly. Reduce dimensions or increase the limit yourself; always inspect detail before sharing.
What happens to transparency and the original photo?
PNG and WebP preserve transparency; JPEG uses a white background. PNG reduces size mainly through resizing, so its quality slider is disabled. Re-encoding removes original metadata such as EXIF and may change colors or detail. The original file is never overwritten. One static image at a time; GIF, HEIC, SVG, animation and oversized images are not supported.
Prepare a photo for an upload form
Choose a photo, select JPEG and enter the form’s maximum size if needed. Generate a result, check its actual size and inspect details before downloading.
Example and expected result
For a 200 KB limit, enter 200 in the size target. A result only meets the limit when its encoded size is at most 200,000 bytes. If it misses, try smaller dimensions. A smaller file is not a guarantee that the receiving site will accept its format or dimensions.
